The report was developed following the principles and standards adopted by the major Italian and international industries and specifically the guidelines expressed by the Forum on the preparation of company environmental reports promoted by Eni Enrico Mattei Foundation (FEEM) in 1994.

The report is structured in two sections:
• the first one, of a qualitative nature, illustrates the group's activities - quarrying, production of cement and ready-mix concrete - and the Environmental and Safety Management System implemented by Buzzi Unicem;
• the second one, of a quantitative nature, provides an in-depth analysis of the environmental issues and worker safety hazards connected with the cement production process and it reports the performance and indicators of Italian cement operations in the last three years(1999-2001).
