We consider stakeholders all individuals and groups involved in the companys decision-making processes and who, as such, have an interest in the global result of Buzzi Unicem, in which they participate both actively, influencing its success, and indirectly, benefiting equally from that success.
Shareholders
2009 featured a downward trend in share prices in the first few months, then returning to a growth trend in the second part of the year. After hitting the years minimum in March, Buzzi Unicem shares valuation in fact re -gained strength, rising to hit the periods maximum in October, then going on to end the year at intermediate price levels. Share prices were affected by a macroeconomic scenario featuring ongoing slowdown and by general uncertainty about possible future developments in the economies where the Group operates.
As at 31 December 2009, market capitalization (ordinary and savings stock) was substantially similar to that at 2008 year-end (− 1.0%). In the same period, how - ever, the main index of the Milan Stock Exchange the FTSE MIB index progressed by + 19.5%. Underperformance vs. the market was primarily due to the construction industrys negative cycle.
Suppliers
Buzzi Unicem has always tried to create value in the plants sphere of influence, paying particular attention over the years to developing relations with local businesses, trying to create a relationship of loyalty with them, which, in most cases, has developed beyond the territorial aspect.
Environment and land
Right from the very beginning our production units have actively involved the territory in which they are located.
During the often complex authorization phase, discussions with local authorities and communities are mainly aimed at guaranteeing that the company respects the environment and the citizens health.
In this context Buzzi Unicem commits itself to design and build its own plants equipped with the best environmental technologies, to strictly observe laws and to design structures that mitigate the impact of its activities.
Staff
Buzzi Unicem is committed to the on-going search for more efficient instruments so that its own human resources can continue to improve their contribution to achieving corporate targets. The international organization of the multi-regional group, moving from a single central spirit summarized in the vision, fosters the exchange of experiences and joint work on specific technical-professional topics, both with regard to the important investment projects underway and with regard to the most typically central functions, such as marketing and communication, information systems and finance.
