December 14, 2009 A new conference center at Rimini
The largest conference center in Italy will be built at Rimini using Buzzi Unicem (Unical) concrete. The 38,000 m2 complex was designed by the architect Volkwin Marg from the famous architectural firm GMP in Hamburg, and will include green spaces and a building with a net floor area of 29,000 m2, all of which is being built with minimal impact to the environment. The main external feature is the large 1,600 seat amphitheater shell, located at the first floor, whose original shape characterizes the facade of the building. The three-storey conference center will have three entrances and a foyer connecting the 42 rooms that will seat a total of 9,300 people.
The self-compacting concrete SCC Unical Rck 35 was used for the centers foundation slab while for the upper levels a durable concrete was poured keeping with Italian and European regulations. Unical will have delivered approximately 60.000 m3 of concrete once the building is complete. The center will be inaugurated during the spring 2010 and will be managed by the Convention Bureau della Riviera di Rimini.
