The CDR-P, Combustibile Derivato da Rifiuti-Pirelli (Fuel Derived from Wastes-Pirelli), eco-sustainable and economically self-sufficient, has been realized in collaboration with the Province of Cuneo and the Acsr, the company that collects (and previously sent to the dump) the wastes of 54 towns in the Cuneo Province, and upon design of the Pirelli & C. Ambiente company that operates in the field of energy and material recycling.
The Robilante cement plant, located twelve kilometers from Cuneo, is the first plant to use the new alternative fuel in co-combustion with coal and petcoke. The selection, crushing and desiccation of the dry portion of the household and assimilable wastes and the subsequent mixing with components having an elevated calorific value (among which out-of-use tires, PFU and unchlorinated plastics) are the phases necessary in order to transform the waste into a quality alternative fuel to be used in existing, thus non-dedicated, industrial systems such as cement kilns and thermal power stations.
From the I.D.E.A. (Integrazione dell'Energia nell'Ambiente Integration of Energy in the Environment) Granda production plant of Roccavione, formed as a mixed consortium company in collaboration between public and private entities, to the co-combustion use in the principal burners of kilns 2 and 3 of the Robilante plant, the step is short and the environmental impact zero since the CDR-P does not release dust and/or odors. Ensuring product constancy and homogeneity, low humidity and chlorine content and an elevated calorific value represents, furthermore, the most favorable solution between the contribution in the dumping ground and the heat valorization.
Five years of experimentation have lead to the creation of this opportunity for the energy recycling of wastes that enables the limitation of the disposal in the dumping ground and the use of incinerators, resolving the problem of waste disposal in the most economically and environmentally convenient manner for the community and reaffirming the strategic commitment of our Group for environmental protection and sustainable development.
