Key Issues

Key issues in 2011

Although during the year the world of industry, the public and governments were mostly involved in discussion of the delicate question concerning carbon leakage, the four issues on which our group’s activity focused were:

  1. Responsible use of energy and natural resources
  2. Worker health and safety
  3. Emission monitoring and reporting
  4. Social and environmental impact on the communities that accommodate us.

In order to ensure that these critical factors are always in the forefront when performing everyday tasks, we have specifically trained all our staff in this respect. This is because the business model we intend to offer via our corporate identity demands centrality of these issues in the approach by individuals to their responsibilities - they must round off the group vision and conduct work in the direction of sustainable development.
Only by continuing to merit the unconditional trust of those who have an interest in our business, will we in fact be able to champion the values in which we believe, while simultaneously fuelling our growth.

It is in this perspective that we addressed the key topics of 2011, choosing to:

  • Follow a federal approach such as to achieve full sharing of experience and know-how acquired in the group in order to develop - thanks to the quest for multinational technological synergies - products featuring low impact and long life cycles
  • Focus on the core business - cement, concrete and aggregates - and on investing in assets of high quality and low environmental impact
  • Adopt an attentive cost control policy to create value via consolidated experience and operating efficiency
  • Promote our continuous-improvement programmes, both by circulating our results in the research field and by simplifying our ways of working.
