Vernasca Plant – Fire of a minor nature

Buzzi Unicem hereby reports that yesterday - 2 August 2022 - at about 9:20 p.m., a small fire broke out in the kiln department of the Vernasca Cement Plant in Mocomero.

The incident took place in the cooling area of the clinker, the semi-finished product exiting the kiln.

The causes are yet to be ascertained exactly, but it is assumed there was a small leakage of hot clinker that apparently caught on fire after coming in contact with the lubrication grease of one of the machines that move the cooling grate.

The proper application of procedures prevented any personal injury and minimized damage to the plant.

In application of the safety protocol, the members of the Cement Plant's emergency squad alerted the Fire Department.

Responding to the scene, the firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The plant is now being restored to its regular working condition and the production activities will resume shortly as soon as the repairs are completed.
