60 Years of Activity for the Robilante Plant

On September 21, the Buzzi Unicem plant in Robilante celebrated its 60th anniversary — a milestone that highlights the strength and continuous evolution of one of the Group’s most significant production sites.

The project took shape in the early 1960s: the foundation stone was laid in 1962, and three years later, in February 1965, the first kiln was put into operation. In the following years, thanks to an intense phase of investment and expansion, the plant quickly reached a leading production capacity, with three complete kiln lines and increasingly automated systems.

From the outset, the Robilante cement plant became a benchmark for the cement industry in Europe: it was the first plant in Europe with a central control system and, at the time, the most powerful single production unit in Italy. This achievement was made possible through the use of advanced technologies, automation, process computers, and a carefully designed industrial layout, ensuring high efficiency, flexibility, and production quality.

The anniversary was celebrated in a spirit of participation and sharing, with the presence of company leadership, employees, and many retired colleagues. During the ceremony, symbolic recognitions were presented to three individuals representing the plant’s history and future: the youngest employee, the team member with the longest service, and the oldest retiree.

The day continued with a convivial lunch, giving everyone the opportunity to reconnect and share memories and stories, strengthening the strong sense of belonging that has always characterized the Robilante community.

The event also featured the opening of the photo exhibition “Sandro Buzzi Fotografo?”, showcasing four previously unpublished photographs dedicated to the plant, and the inauguration of the “museum in the garden”, a permanent outdoor exhibition displaying historic machinery that reflects the site’s tradition and technological evolution.

This anniversary was an opportunity to honor the plant’s history, recognize the contribution of its people, and continue building together the future of Robilante.
