Buzzi Unicem kicked off the "ArenA Buzzi Unicem" project, a study designed to turn a large space inside the Buzzi Unicem cement plant in Guidonia into a multipurpose area, through the tools of art and architecture.

The Company, which has always been committed to fostering exchange with the local social context, has involved the artist Alfredo Pirri and the Department of Architecture of the University of Roma Tre, led by Paolo Desideri, in this project. The objective is to develop a plan for the reconversion of a currently underutilized warehouse in order to turn it into an area intended for cultural, educational and social activities, completely opened to the outside world.
As part of the workshop designed to launch the project, the opening day was held at the Guidonia Plant, when more than 50 students from the Architectural Design Course and the PhD in Landscapes of the Contemporary City were asked to retrace the similarities between the worlds of art, industry and territory, with the aim of gathering contextual information, suggestions and design indications useful for elaborating design concepts.
The students' involvement continued in the form of an architecture charrette, an intense week of design, study days and workshops at the Faculty of Architecture that culminated in the students submitting their design proposals to a panel of experts and professionals at the end of the workshop.

A few particularly deserving and interested students were selected to work alongside Alfredo Pirri and Paolo Desideri in the drafting of a subsequent feasibility study.
The ambition of the project, should the preliminary study confirm the feasibility of what has been conceived so far, is to make the area usable within the next 18 months. The requalified area will also host a permanent exhibition of the conceptual watercolors created by the artist Pirri, as a testimony of the origins of the project and as the foundation of the initiative.

ArenA Buzzi Unicem wants to be a unique and original example of integration between factory and local community.
