Five Years of Sustainable Service: Farewell to Danavik and Welcome to Molvik
On November 12, the ship Danavik completed its final voyage for Buzzi Unicem, departing from Augusta to Malta and Marghera. Entering service in 2021, over five years it transported more than 900,000 tons of cement to key Mediterranean terminals, ensuring supply continuity and reliable logistics.
During its service, Danavik combined high performance with sustainability: an efficient engine and pneumatic unloading system optimized transit and port operations, keeping fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions 15% lower than comparable vessels. Its introduction marked a shift in Buzzi Unicem’s maritime logistics, enabling direct control of the transport chain and promoting sustainable practices.
With the retirement of Danavik, Buzzi Unicem introduces the new ship Molvik, equipped with advanced technologies to further reduce fuel use and emissions. Early simulations indicate a 30% fuel saving compared with Danavik. Together with its sister ship Solvik and new rail connections, such as the Savona-Trino line, Molvik strengthens the company’s strategy for efficient and sustainable cement transport.
