Over the past few months, an energy efficiency project has been completed at Buzzi Unicem's Robilante cement plant, focusing on the "Cotto 1" grinding department. The project involved a key stage of the cement production process and consisted of upgrading the existing grinding system by replacing the dynamic separator with a next-generation machine designed to improve the efficiency of the powder separation process. The potential increase in hourly production enabled by the new separator is expected to reduce the department's specific energy consumption, resulting in estimated electricity savings of up to 504 MWh per year. This estimate is based on an annual production of 44,000 tonnes and an hourly production capacity of 24 t/h after the upgrade, compared with 20 t/h before the intervention.

The project was carried out within the framework of the Piedmont Region's ERDF Regional Programme 2021–2027 (Action II.2i.2), a strategic initiative co-financed by the European Union to support companies in their energy transition through energy efficiency measures and the adoption of renewable energy sources. As required by the programme, the energy consumption of the grinding department will be monitored over the coming years to verify the expected energy savings and document the results achieved. 

The funding received made it possible to implement advanced technological solutions, contributing to improved energy efficiency in the grinding process and optimizing the performance of the plant.
