Photovoltaics in Italy: a shared path toward renewable energy

Buzzi Unicem continues to expand its portfolio of photovoltaic plants for its production processes, reinforcing its commitment to energy transition and decarbonization.

In 2025, four plants became operational: Trino (VC), Guidonia (RM), Siniscola (NU), and San Lorenzo in Campo (PU). The first three, dedicated to self-consumption, produce a total of about 19.6 GWh per year, covering up to 93% of plant consumption; the Marche plant delivers all energy to the grid. Together, the four sites will save around 6,727 tons of CO₂ annually.

The project, launched in 2021, involves multiple company functions: Legal and Procurement, Safety, Engineering, and Technical teams. Cross-functional collaboration has enabled the company to navigate complex authorizations and deliver efficient plants, integrating expertise and site management.

The initiative shows how technological innovation and teamwork can create value and sustainability. For Buzzi Unicem, this journey is just beginning, with new plants already in the planning phase to strengthen energy autonomy and reduce emissions.
